I Would Have Freed Myself
“This book was assembled in early 2022, some months after traveling home to Kosova for the first time in a decade. The text and images contained herein are an embodiment of my lived experience over the past twenty-three years; as a woman, as a refugee, as an immigrant. As someone who is still searching for herself - in spaces, in memories, in dreams.
The selected poems were written in New York throughout 2019; the exact dates are unknown. The accompanying photographs were produced at various locations in Kosova, Albania and Montenegro, while retracing the path taken by myself and countless others during the Serbian incursion and NATO bombardment of Yugoslavia in 1999.”
